A message from PINE MOUNTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL
I know most everyone has questions on their mind about how the information shared from Governor Kemp this past week will impact our kids at Pine Mountain. So, I wanted to try and clarify this as well as answer some of the questions that I am hearing the most. The first question I would like to address is whether or not school is out for the remainder of the year. The short answer to this is no. Although the physical building will remain closed, our staff will still be conducting virtual classes for kids to keep learning as much content as they can. Our vision is to prepare students for high school success. As such, we want to encourage our students to continue their digital learning with their teachers. Students, doing so will help you be a stronger student when next school year starts. Whether you are a sixth grader moving into seventh grade, a seventh grader moving into eighth grade, or an eighth grader moving into high school, it’s important for you to continue with your learning. Just imagine what starting your next grade level would be like if you have only mastered three quarters of what you were supposed to have learned this year. We want you to have a strong academic year in 2020-2021 by doing all you can to keep learning the content you are supposed to have learned in your respective grade level. Again, there are four quarters in your school year. I encourage you to complete the fourth quarter as best as you can so that you are provided the opportunities to learn all the important priority standards for your classes. Your continued learning is important to your teachers and me. That is why we are working hard to make sure we are emphasizing those important standards right now and working to answer all the questions we can for you. We want you to be as successful as possible in your next grade level. One thing you will notice as you continue to get older is that learning continues all the time – grade or no grade - learning always happens. People that continue to learn throughout their life and apply what they have learned find themselves more successful. Grade wise, your grade will reflect, at a minimum, what was posted on your third quarter report card and will not go any lower. So, by continuing your digital learning studies you not only have the opportunity to help make sure you will be more successful the upcoming school year, but also you will have the opportunity to improve the grade you made in your class during the third quarter. If you are satisfied with your third quarter grade, please know that not continuing to learn the important information your teachers will share with you during digital learning, could impact you as you move forward to the next grade level. It’s not easy missing information and being as successful as you want to be. Although, all grades will be converted in the fourth quarter to a pass or fail, the higher the numeric grade you end up having between the third and fourth quarter, the better your numeric grade will be for the semester. This could help you with Honor Roll, Principal’s Honor Roll, Wall of Honor, and course placements for next year. Again, if you are looking to improve your grades and if you want to make sure you are better prepared for the next grade level, then just keep on participating with digital learning. We are here and ready for you! Truly, it’s a win-win relationship for our students to keep up with their digital learning activities. Finally, I have had lots of questions about students being able to get into the school to get personal items. Right now, our entire county is under a shelter in place order. Once the shelter in place order has been lifted, we will be able to talk more as to how we will be able to get our students in to pick up personal items from the school. So, for now, we just wait. Please know how much I appreciate all our parents and guardians working with your student during this time. Our social worker and counselors know who has not been able to be reached during our digital learning days and know who is need of technology assistance. Our school is in outstanding shape with kids participating. And, a plan is in place to support those in need and those few who still have been unable to be contacted. I appreciate those who have reached out to me to see how they could volunteer to serve in whatever capacity needed during this time to help our community. Mustang Nation is an incredible place. I thank you, again, for the grace and patience you have shown and that your student has shown. I am so proud of everyone for all they have been doing to keep learning happening at the Mountain. Everything we have dealt with so far and that we keep continuing to experience is more proof that at Pine Mountain Middle School we “Never Stop Climbing”! Please don’t forget that during Spring Break there will be no digital learning days. As always, never hesitate to email me if you have any questions. I hope you have been enjoying the updated and reformatted website. Stay healthy, do all you can to enjoy this time with your family, and keep practicing our ability to show grace and patience. I will be available 10:30- 12 Monday through Friday to answer any questions and give feedback. Please refer to the PE tab for daily lessons. Contact me through email. [email protected]
